The Louis Vuitton Cup is underway and Emirates Team New Zealand broke some LVC/AC records. At one point in the leg, the AC72 team was sailing its 72-foot water line in a single second, recording a top speed of 42.8 knots. This was with a wind speed of only 14-16 knots. Wowzers! The 90-foot multihulls back in the 2010 America’s Cup couldn’t touch that speed. A true testament to fixed wing mainsails and hydrofoils, to say the least. The Kiwi boat reported an average speed of 20.7 knots around the 16.05NM race course.
Check it out…..
Unfortunately, the action was short lived. Team Luna Rossa apparently decided to keep their ultra shiny foiler off of the race course as they are awaiting a protest hearing with the International Jury. Tune in here to stay up to date on the action.
